Sarcophagus with the Crossing of the Red Sea

The relief illustrates Exodus 14:10-31. On the left Pharaoh and his troops pursue the Israelites into the sea. In the center the Egyptians perish as the waters close on them at the command of Moses, who stands on the shore with his rod. His people and their children proceed to the right. On the far right the prophetess Miriam leads a song of triumph with her timbrel (Exodus 15:20-21).
Moses is young and beardless, with curly hair that covers much of his forehead. He wears a toga.
On the back of the sarcophagus
